Craps Terms

To a new player, craps can sound like a foreign language. If you don’t want to get lost while playing the game, here are a few vocabulary words to memorize:

* Snake Eyes: A roll of 1-1 (for a total of 2).
* Boxcars: A roll of 6-6 (a total of 12)
* Hard Way: Throwing a 4, 6, 8, or 10 with a pair, rather than different numbers on each die. For example, “eight the hard way” means rolling 4-4.
* Yo: Eleven. The number is said this way to avoid confusion, since 11 and 7 can sound similar, especially in a loud casino room.
* Crapping Out: This occurs when the shooter rolls a 2, 3 or 12 on the come out roll; when this happens, all pass line bets are lost.
* Natural: A 7 rolled on the come out roll, which makes all pass line bets win. If the 7 is rolled before a point later in the game, it’s known as a “seven out.”
